Established 2025-Combat Racing was born out of sweat, sacrifice, and the relentless drive to go further. Founded by Joe Miller—a combat veteran and retired federal Chief of Police—Combat Racing exists to build a community and forge warriors on the trail.
After decades of military and law enforcement service, Joe saw parallels between the battlefield and the endurance world: both demand grit, discipline, and the ability to suffer with purpose. Combat Racing channels that mindset into premier trail and ultra-marathon events designed to push athletes beyond their limits while fostering unbreakable bonds.
Joe Miller’s story isn’t about easy wins. It’s about fighting back.
A U.S. Navy and Army National Guard veteran, Joe served in operations across the Persian Gulf, Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. His military career and later role as a federal Chief of Police were built on discipline, service, and leading others through chaos.

A former elite powerlifter, Joe set multiple American Power Lifting Records. After retiring from a career in the profession of arms, he found himself battling weight gain and metabolic issues. Joe committed to turning his health around. What started as daily walks became jogs, and then a passion for trail and endurance running. Running became his new mission.
As founder and Race Director of Combat Racing, and co-host of the Where’s the Finish Podcast, he’s dedicated to building events where others can discover what they’re made of.
“I’ve spent my life serving others—in combat zones, on the streets, and now on the trail. This is bigger than running. It’s about showing people they’re capable of more than they imagined.”
